The functions of the Health Technology Development Division are:

• to propose strategies and policies for promoting technological development applied to health;
• identify and define health sector priorities for transforming knowledge, health discoveries into health products and technologies;
• to promote and accelerate the evaluation, improvement, and transformation of local knowledge and practices into technologies and products for safe use in healthcare;
• promote the development, evaluation and use of health technologies in accordance with international good practice standards and current national legal and regulatory precepts;
• promote national and institutional capacity for the evaluation of technologies and products applied to health, including technical-scientific training
• on good practices for the development of health products, including good clinical and laboratory practices;
• map and catalog local and traditional knowledge, products and technologies with preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative potential and promote their evaluation and improvement using scientifically valid methods;
• To propose and coordinate the network of clinical trial centers and other biomedical, pharmacological, clinical and related platforms aimed at the discovery, development and testing of technological innovations applicable to health at the National Institute of Health;
• promote interconnection between products and technologies under evaluation and development with incubators;
• To conduct local and international mapping of new health technologies in the areas of biomedicine, pharmacology, biophysics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, digital technologies, clinical and other related scientific areas in health, and to promote their evaluation and improvement, in order to guide decisions regarding their use in the National System;
• propose and coordinate biomedical, pharmacological, clinical and related platforms, aimed at the discovery, development and testing of technological innovations applicable to health at the National Institute of Health;
• develop specific prototype programs and experimental models of health technologies;
• carry out other activities that are assigned to them within the scope of the development, study and testing of health technologies.
